The secret to stopping time.

Since there is no special secret this is what I do: I take (literally) hundreds of pictures a month. So when Cache is 16 I can look back and remember the morning that he was so determined to get himself ready all by his big boy self.

I try my best to enjoy every moment. I write things down. I blog about it. I facebook it. I hold him tight. I listen so carefully to his little, deep voice telling me stories. I try to soak up everything.

...but I still wish I had a time machine to take me back so I can actually relive those moments.

:)

He's a big boy now.

Cache Money.
I bought a book the other day that is called, If I Could Keep You Little. I bought it because  I think of the many conversations we've had about you staying little. You always have very strong, valid reasons about why that is not possible.
Today you told dad, "I do my chores, I pull up my own pants, I can dress myself and you still won't let me drive."
One thing is for certain, we LOVE you. We love how helpful you are. We love how silly you are. We love how caring and sweet you are.

The other day you and I were playing football and you clocked me right in the face. It kinda hurt. You said in the sweetest voice, "Mom, I told you to catch it." Then you ran over to me, gave me a kiss on the cheek and said, "Sometimes you just have to do it again. This time catch it." And then you threw it to me the way threw to you when you were a baby. I caught it and you cheered for me like I just won the super bowl. Thank you for that  :) Just so you know, your mom does know how to play sports :).

I never want to forget that you love to talk in third person right now. When I correct you, you will say, "No, I love to talk in the fird person!" So I let you. You can be crying your eyes out, pause, look at me and say, "I think he's way sad." Then you'll go right back to crying.

I also want to remember that you are very aware of relationships. For awhile now you have been coming up to me saying, "Mom, you're husband is home from work!" or "Dad, you're mom has sleeping bags at her house!"

You are finally sleeping in your own bed! HOORAY!

You also change your clothes about 5 times a day. Drives me nuts. You climb your closet, pull down clothes (or get them from the dresser) and you'll come out with the proudest smile. Your shorts will be on backwards and you'll hold out your shirt for me to put on, or you'll put it on yourself.

You LOVE to wear socks. You even wear them to bed.

You LOVE sports. You can kick the soccer ball up the steep hill in our neighborhood. You are fast. You can throw like a champ. You can slam dunk on your little tikes hoop and Uncle Tj is helping you become quite the golfer. :)

You say amazing prayers and for the most part you listen to me.

I think you're great. I am blessed to have you!

I love you a whole lot!

Air Jordans

Cache Money got his first pair of Jordans on Saturday night. He even had a whole entourage with him for the purchase.
My mom, Uncle T.j, Uncle Connor, Auntie Mandi, Steve and me. All of us in Finish Line watching Cache go crazy about shoes. "Awww!! Dats cool! Look at dese! Look at dese!!"  This was said repeatedly along with, "Dos are sweet! I want them!"
Magically we limited him to trying on three pairs of shoes.
We put the first pair on and Steve said, "Cache lets see how fast you can run in them."
Cache was so excited that Steve gave him permission to run at full speed. I am sure that Steve thought that Cache would just run down a row and back. Nope. Cache Money goes from the back of the store to the outside of the store in the unpaid shoes. Luckily T.j was there to chase him down.
This happened two more times. He slipped passed all of us and into the mall. T.j was getting pretty winded. Good thing his best bud was there to help him get Cache. I am glad that they were there because at this moment I was getting hit with the worst cold flu I have ever had.
Anyways, best part of the night...
Did I mention he was wearing a cape? Yes. A cape. A BYU cape. My three year old was bolting through the mall wearing a cape. And he loved it. He had so much fun that night.

Thanks Gramma Jamie! Thanks T.j! -Cache

.Smile.

You know when you  frown then move your hand across your face and magically you have a smile? I did that to Cache awhile ago and he thought it was hilarious. We were reading books on the bed when Cache looks at me with the most serious face and moves his hand over and comes out smiling. Watch close because some of the changes are subtle and some are not :)

After we put away the Christmas decor Cache decided to write a story...
Did he just call me Krista?!

Happy Birthday Cache!

Cache Money is 3 years old!  Three years ago I posted this entry filled with pictures of newborn Cache. Now I am filling this post with pictures of a kid who makes sure that he only eats things that make him grow :) and who loves these things (they do change often but this was todays results)...

Favorite part of your birthday: 'Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you!' and cake.
Favorite Movie: Monsters Inc. (3 months ago it was Buzz Lightyear)
Favorite Song: Happy Birthday! (Used to be 'Party Like a ROCKSTAR!')
Favorite Game: Football. I like football. No, I love football. (Very true and has not changed)
Favorite Book: No David!
Favorite Color: Blue (same)

My personal favorite part of Cache's birthday was Cache's birthday hat. He had been SO excited about getting a birthday hat! I have no idea where this excitement came from. We bought it the night before his birthday and he just had to show everybody. It was a struggle getting it off of him before bedtime. When he woke up it was the first thing he put on.

The weather was beautiful on Cache's birthday and we were happy about that because Cache wanted to go on a bike ride. He got to do that, open presents throughout the day and go bowling. Bowling went great, I will just put it in Cache's words, "I spanked my dad in bowling! I beat em'!" It is true, he did. He bowled a 168.

We also played Candyland, Hungry Hungry Hippos and Chutes and Ladders. Where I found out I really need to teach my son to be a good loser. He would get way to upset if he lost. We are working on it.

I could tell all day that Cache was not feeling good. He was (and always is) a trooper when he is sick. I can tell that he is sick by his eyes, other than that he runs like a maniac, plays football etc., and rides his bike. On this day it was the same thing. He had a horrible cough but wouldn't stay still to breathe. This made his cough worse. But he wanted to party it up.

That night some of his Aunties, Uncles and cousins came over along with grandparents for a little birthday bash. Cache had a blast and a half!

After that party Steve and I were cooking for the party in the morning. Cache was excited to see all his friends and his Aunties (Cassie, Anna, Ashlee and Chantelle). He was extra excited for his Cinnamon Birthday Cake as well.

That night, Cache couldn't sleep. He was fevering pretty bad.
"My birthday hat is buggin' me! It's hurting my head so bad!" That is what woke me up at 1:22 a.m. when Cache was not wearing his birthday hat. After that Cache and me both didn't go back to sleep until 5:45 in the morning. So, we had to cancel his Birthday Brunch. He was a devastated about it. Especially since we went to the doctor instead. We found out he had bronchio....I'm not even going to try, and his first ear infection. :( sorry buddy.

When Cache is feeling better we will have his Birthday Brunch.

a loss of words.

Yesterday I was world's lamest mom. I was sick and sat around all day blowing my nose, drinking cough syrup and watching pretty little liars marathon. I know. Don't judge.

Last night I vowed I would do some thing fun with Cache. My great idea, the Bean Museum.

Wow. That really backfired.

This was our conversation on the way there.

C: I'm so 'cited to see dem animals!!
M: We are going to have so much fun money.
C: I'm goin' to the zoo, I'm goin' to the zoo, I'm goin' to the zoo! (said in cute sing-song voice)
M: Well this place isn't the zoo. It does have animals that we can look at, they just don't move.
C: Why.
M: .....Because they are sleeping? (Question mark because I was hoping he would by that)
C: That's a zoo.
M: Kind of...

...I didn't know what to say. It just didn't feel right to say,  "Well son, they are all dead. We are walking around looking at dead animals."

On our way inside...

C: I see the zoo!
M: It isn't a zoo. It's a museum, but it will still be fun. (Lying, I know terrible)
M: The animals won't move because they're not alive.
C: (Sees a massive moose through the glass door) OH! OH MAN! OH MOM!! HIS EYES ARE OPEN! HE'S NOT SLEEPING!
M: He probably won't move still because he's not alive. (Not sure Cache knows what alive means)
C: Oh he is big! Oh he doesn't move. Dats' weird.

In the African Safari section...
C: OH! What de HECK?! What is dat' lion doing to that deer? (I think it was a gazelle)AH! He's gon eat him!

C: Why aren't they makin' sounds?

Somewhere there was a sound of monkeys and Cache's face lit up like, "maybe my mom didn't bring me to such a lame sauce place after all."

C: I wan see dos monkeys! I am cited! Where are dey?
M: I dunno, let's look for them

We never found them.

Cache was freaked out by the lack of sound and movement. Not to mention the lack of body parts.

He was so disappointed. Now I feel guilty and I am currently looking for a day that I have free to take him to the Zoo. With living, breathing animals.

cinnamon rolls & train rides

On New Year's Eve Steve made cinnamon rolls, in a very manly way.
He makes THE best cinnamon rolls in the world. Seriously. It tastes like the middle of a cinnamon roll in every bite! Delish.

On this fabulous day we also took Cache on another train ride for his amazing potty skills.

Before you look at the next picture, I have to tell you...
Cache was SO excited to go on the train. We had a lil' conversation that went like this.
"Mom! Please can you get ready?"
"I have to take a shower and get dressed."
(While in the shower I hear Cache Money yelling)
"MOM! YOU ARE TAKING SO LONG!!"
I come out with my towel wrapped around me and Cache runs into our closet, grabs one of my blouses off of the hanger and says,
"Oh, mom, dis one is cute! Put dis one on, hurry."
I get dressed...
I forgot to mention to Cache that I also had to do my hair and make up and we had to get some household chores done.
"AHHHH! Mom I jus' want to ride dat train! I have my stickers on my ticket. You don need make up."
We came to a compromise, he could have one sucker while he waited for me.
I half haphazardly dried my hair and twirled it up.
Meanwhile Cache had crunched his sucker right off the stick and it was gone.
"My sucker is gone! Time to go!"
"Cache I have to put on make up."
"No, you don't."
I just looked at him while I grabbed what I needed.
"Alright. Grab dat eye jail and den les go."
Eye jail is my eyelash curler...his father taught him that.
"Pweeeze mommy. I love you, take me to dat train ride." (Huge brown eyes, lashes batting....sweetest face I've ever seen)

1 1/2 later I am ready, Cache had not gone potty. I think it was because he was so excited. He refused to go and I didn't make him since he waited for me "all morning".

Needless to say I was a little nervous...
Especially when I captured this picture of him before the train started chugging away.
I was certain that we would return with some wet pants.

Cache made it home like a big boy. No accidents. But when we asked him if he needed to go potty he said, "NO!" Well, when we got home he went potty, for a long time. It reminded me of the beginning of Austin Powers when they unfreeze him and he is unloading years of liquid....anyways, Steve and me were trying to stifle our laughter as we peeked in at Cache who had such a look of relief on his face.  That would be our stubborn little guy for you.

.2012.

Hey, its been awhile. I know that in 2011 I vowed to blog once a week and I didn't do that. This year I am going to try again and on December 31, 2012 (if we are all still alive...wink-wink) we will see how I did. Hopefully I have 52 blog posts.

One of the most important tasks I wanted to accomplish in 2011 was to potty train Cache Money. I am happy to report that after several stickers, dollar bills, train rides and dum-dums,  Steve and I were able to check that off our list! I don't know if you know how exciting that was. It's okay if you don't. It's also okay if you don't find looking into a potty to see what your two year old left is the most exciting thing in the world. Steve and I are happy and excited and ecstatic and exhausted. But mostly we are proud.

Cache Steven Bourne. My little boy, not baby boy, little boy....big boy according to him. Don't worry, if I forget that he is constantly growing he will remind me. Thinking about it makes my eyes a lil' bit sweaty.

A few weeks ago when I had picked up Cache from his Grandma Bourne's house and we were driving home he said in this firm, sweet voice, "Mom, I can't stay little for you. I'm getting big. Dats' good because I can't grow up little." Such wise words filled with truth from such a young child.

Yesterday I wrote this quote on my mirror:
"But meanwhile time flies; it flies never to be regained."
- Virgil

I need a reminder here and there to cherish the moments and do everything I can to preserve them.  I hope that I accomplish that in 2012. Because before I know it, my old wrinkly hands will be going through scrapbooks, blogs, old facebook posts and journal entries to remind me of "back then".

Here is to 2012. More time to fly and more moments to cherish....and no more diapers to change ;).

Sunday with Cache

October 9, 2011.

The Brother who was giving the opening prayer walks up to the pulpit. Cache folds his arms and squeezes his eyes shut. He is smiling because he knows he is doing exactly what he is supposed to.
...two minutes later (prayer is still going strong, we are still in the thanking portion)...
"Mom. He's just talking."
In a barely audible voice I whisper in his ear, "Cache, he is still praying."
In a voice that echoed through the chapel, "Dats a REALLY LONG PRAYER!!"

It was a very long prayer. Pretty sure the whole gym/overflow section of the chapel was trying not to LOL.

We had 3 baby blessings that day. During the second baby blessing Cache said, "I'm just gon fol' my arms. I am jus tired of prayin."

With 15 more minutes of the meeting left to go Cache is coloring. One of his little nursery friends runs over from across the aisle and takes a crayon and Cache says, "Excuse me. You are freaking me out!" Of course he would say that. That is how all 2 year olds respond to things like that, right?

5 minutes left to go we are singing the closing hymn... Cache is on my lap and decides to bust out some "Real Men Of Genius", you know the Budlight commercials.
Cache is singing, "Real Men of Genius. Mr. T-shirt launcher-inventor-make-nose-bleed-crack-budlight"
I notice that everyone on our row, the row in front of us and the back row have stopped singing and eyes are peering over shoulders. I will have to thank T.j for that one. Mr. T-Shirt Launcher Inventor Song if you'd like to listen, it is pretty funny.

So after Sacrament Meeting we went to nursery with Cache for the last 2 hours of church.
FYI: Nursery is a great place to hide out when your child makes multiple offenses during Sacrament Meeting.

Here's to you, Mr. Doesn't-like-long-prayers-gets-freaked-out-by-crayon-stealers-and-is-not-afraid-to-shout-it-but-your-parents-still-love-you

A Family First

The three of us went to the 1st BYU football home game this season and we have gone to everyone since then.
Three games.
We have loved it, mostly because of Cache Money. The first game he was taking it all in. Second game, he flashed his abs at the crowd on the first touchdown. Third game, tried to run onto the field...8 minutes before the game was over. Will there be a fourth game this season for Cache? I am not sure, we will see. We may end up going to a game and miss hearing his adorable deep voice say, "Cougar 1st down!" or "Go BYU Cougars!".

Potty Training Is A Breeze...

Agreed...If that is the breeze that has been causing all of the tornados in the Midwest.
(notice the hair? He did it himself. Quite the stylist, yes?)
Cache is slowly adapting to this whole routine and he is loving his reward stickers. He has had some accidents, one this morning  led me to have him run around pant-less, which neither of us are a fan of. Cache loves his clothes and I love how cute he is in them. But, we have had 3 "number one" accidents and this morning was our first "number two" accident and today we almost lost a pair of pants. I did save them. It was yucky, but I did it.

Everything I've read says, "If they have an accident assure them it is okay, but next time they should put it in the potty." Uh...so not okay with me. So hard to stay calm and not...gag. Cache was not a fan of my O.C.D Ninja gear. As I was quickly preparing to clean up the mess I grabbed one of my tank-tops and tied around my face (to block the odor) and I couldn't find my cleaning gloves so I wrapped my hands in plastic bags. Creative, right? I looked in the mirror after and I was a little afraid of myself :).

Anyway, we here at the Bourne household are going to push forward with all of this potty training. No going back now. Until then, does anyone know where I can buy one of these...

Us

Mommy-hood

Oh, hey there.  How's life? Good? Good.
What am I doing? Oh, I'm just trying not to fall asleep on the keyboard while I blog about this day. It was a doozy I tell you, a doozy. Which is saying a lot because I don't necessarily use that word. But I don't know how else to describe it.

6:30 Alarm goes off. Awesome.
8:15 I am FLYING out the door
8:25 Work, and everything that comes with it... along with several surprises
12:30 Running out the door because I am leaving late from work... again.
12:32 Text message from mom. Cache popped his pants, I need to bring new ones.
12:40 Run inside the house, grab pants, check to make sure our taxes were accepted. Take a breathe run back outside. Help the neighbor pick up all of the papers she has dropped while her son is running out in the road and the other neighbor's dog is eating the papers. I'm thinking, "Man, looks like she is having a tough day."
1:00 Drive to P-Town to pick up Cache, change cache. Go to Steve's office to help him organize things.  SIDE NOTE: THANK YOU MOM FOR WATCHING CACHE TODAY! I didn't get to see you so I thought I would throw that in there.
...
Now here is where I have completed making the list and Cache and I go to Office Max...this is also where I went from a spunky, energetic person to a...well...THIS
Before I write down the story I have to admit, I did kind of love some of the things that happened at Office Max. That is the majority of the reason I am blogging. I laughed, I yelled Cache's name, I groaned, I gave apologetic smiles to the staff and I ran... A LOT.
Office Max
Today Cache and I went to Office Max. It was fun, entertaining, exhausting, embarrassing, enlightening and it even made me feel like saying, "Imma gonna loose my mind!"

We entered the store quite casually. The nice man at the door gave  us a cart. Cache wanted to ride inside and I thought to myself, "Oh so nice. This won't take long at all." The man asked me if I needed help finding anything and I energetically said, "I'm alright, thanks." I pulled out my list like it was a treasure map and I was off.

10 minutes into our shopping trip the song, You Belong With Me, came on. This happens to be my ringtone. Cache jumps from the child seat to the basket and starts saying, "Mommy's phone! Mom where yo phone?! Mom I don see it!" I'm stunned because I am still getting used to Cache talking so much and when he does I just want to listen to him. He is dying to come out of the cart and look for my phone. I tell him that he HAS to stay right by me and I let him out. ZOOM! He is running circles around me trying to find my phone.

Fast Forward several minutes to when I am looking down at my heels thinking, "Krista Kei, you couldn't have just grabbed some rubber slippers to go shopping?" I snap out of it and continue to run. I catch Cache and we have  a little chat. He stays by my side for about 5 minutes.

The same man that greeted us at the door asked me if I was still doing okay. I hinted a sense of sarcasm. I said, "uhh..I need those letter size hanging file folders, I can't reach." He points out that they are actually on the bottom shelf to my left. During this Cache decided to go for a run...again. I say run because he always comes back, so it isn't really running away. I watch as Cache does one of his amazing quick footed turns and runs back towards me. He says, "Where scaaeee (scary) man go?" I told him that he needed to hold mommy's hand because the scary man would come and get him. Cache was holding my hand and then I was trying to find the difference between folders that were exactly the same except one was $5.42 cheaper. He takes off AGAIN...then I hear...

"AHH!! MOM! A SCAEE MAN! RUN! RUN! MOM!!" I run to the end of the aisle to see Cache pointing at the nice sarcastic man who greeted us at the door and helped me find what I needed. I smiled at him and moved Cache along.

Cache stayed by me the rest of the time. BUT, Steve called and as I was picking up notepads and as I was talking to Steve, Cache filled the cart with pens and folders. I looked at him and he said, "Der go mommy, welcome." Then he was pretty sad when I put it all back.

Then it was finally time to check out.... 1 HOUR later. Cache really wanted to help push and so I was letting him walk in front of me to push the cart. Everyone in the store kept waving at Cache and he just did his little Cache strut. We got to the check out stand and guess who was there to help us...the same man who greeted us. His look changed from entertained to sympathetic. Probably because he witnessed Cache open my purse and dump out all of the contents onto the floor. The man whipped around the counter to help me and as he did that I quickly stuck Cache in the shopping cart. BAD IDEA. Cache climbed onto the check out stand. I scolded him and put him back in the cart and the man kept saying, "Oh don't worry about it." Cache said, "So sorry mom." Then he sat there like an angel while the man rang us up. We were almost to the end when the man said, "Would you like the receipt in the bag?" Cache is very observant because when that machine spit out the receipt Cache ripped it out. Then he ripped out some more. Once again, I had sympathetic glances aimed at me along with the, "Really don't worry about it." and the, "Wow, he is so full of energy!" and, "Aww, he is so cute. What a little helper."

True Story... I looked down at my pedometer as we walked to the car, I had 1523 more steps then I had before we entered Office Max.
Cache fell asleep before we even left the parking lot.
Then we got to Steve's office and I thought Cache would sleep. Nope. His 5 minute power nap was all he needed.

Long story short, we took him to a babysitter first chance we got. Thank you T.j and Mandi.  We got everything done, left at 7:00 pm. No matter how much energy this kid takes out of me, I love em' and we will always find more energy to have fun. Right buddy?

Cacher-roo...
No matter what mistakes you make,
No matter the headaches and sore feet you give me,
No matter how many times you may have to sit in time-out,
I will love you for eternity.
You are MY little boy.
Doesn't matter that you will be a foot taller than me when you're 10,
Doesn't matter that you will someday start thinking girls are cute,
Doesn't matter how many times I may or may not have to ground you,
You are still my little boy.
And I love you for who you are. I love you to death and it brings me to tears.
Some day I will have to thank Heavenly Father the best way I know how and that is to give you a big hug and say, "I'm so proud of you! You are going to be a great missionary." Oh, I know that will be hard for me, but..
You're the best thing that could have ever happened to your dad and me. The sacrifices we have had to make and will have to make for you are nothing compared to the wonderful things you have brought into our lives.
I just love you lots and so does your daddy.

P.S I do realize that the sore feet are my fault and not yours. I just love me some high heels kiddo! ;)

Nothing Like A 2 Year Old...

Especially my 2 year old.
Get ready because I am about to post over 70 pictures of Cache's Birthday.
You have just seen#1
Excuse the sideways manner of this photo, but Cache LOVES his Pediasure and I had to show that...
Delish...
Out of all of the things Cache could've had for breakfast he wanted toast.
A lil' bit of toast while watching Mickey Mouse. Could life get any better?
BathTime

Post Bath Routine:
Cache waits for me to wrap him in his towel, he then puts his arms together like a pray mantis and says, "I's freesie mommy!"
Then I say, "OH NO!! Cache is freezin!" In an equally dramatic manner and I rush him to our bed and put him on my pillow (which he thinks is his), then I say "Oh NO!! My baby's freezin!" again and put the covers on him. Then, he lays there and relaxes for a several minutes and then jumps up, runs to his bedroom and brings me his diaper.
I wouldn't have it any other way.
These shorts...these are Cache's all time favorite shorts. His all time favorite outfit? These shorts with no shirt. When we come home he runs to his room, opens his drawer to pull these out, then runs to me and says," shorts peez!" If a shirt is on he struggles to take it off until he decides he needs some help.
He decided he wanted bread for his snack...oh and Mickey Mouse is on like all morning.

Present time...

He loved his wrapping paper...

Notice how his eyes are averted AWAY from his present? Dang Mickey Mouse.
Close up of the face that says, "I'm over this. Mickey Mouse is on."
Such a man, right? It's like Jimmer was going one on one with MJ himself. Cache could not tear his eyes away from the screen.
His present... "Its cwose mom!"
I personally love that he gets excited about it.
Play Time

Helicoppee!
Before I left the room..
When I returned Cache was chillaxin in a tiny basket with a bunch of stuffed animals.
PARTY TIME!!!!

Just chugging some root beer with my cousins.

Coming up for air...
And we're chugging again...
Can you tell that rootbeer is quite the treat for Cache?
More party pictures

We had some intense WII going one during the party

More Presents...
Shirtless...again.

Baller....
Cache didn't want to open more presents after he opened this football from Uncle Isaac. He LOVES this ball.

From Auntie Dorie and Uncle SaeJoon...
I LOVE it!!

Oh no she did not just put that many pictures on one blog post!
Oh yes, yes I DID!!
BOO-YA
