Hogle Zoo

On Friday August 13, 2010 We went to the Hogle Zoo

We saw "nature's nightmares"
as you can see Cache is clinging to Steve

Looking at Piranhas.
Cache thought they were the coolest think ever. He kept making us go back to them.

Cache LOVED the merry-go-round!

When we were waiting in the queue line he started getting a bit impatient.
Then it was finally our turn. Cache sat on his lion and was happy....he had no idea it got better.

Soon he was going around and up and down. He loved it.
I am so happy I took him first because the second time, once he was on he animal, he knew he was supposed to be moving.
Yup, I could hear him on the other side of the merry go round "encouraging" them to hurry up.

Then it stopped...

Cache was quite upset. We had to hurry and get his mind off of it (then we made sure we avoided the merry go round the rest of our zoo visit).

So across the way, to the elephants we went.

Baby Elephant (the day before her b-day)

Then to the rhinos...man they STINK

This picture was take of Cache at the bird show. It also just so happens to be right before he got in trouble with the zoo worker. Cache decided the show was boring, so he ran over to the grassy area as they were releasing some dangerous hawk. The zoo worker came up to him (right as Steve was standing up to get him) and said, "little boy, you need to go sit down." Cache looked at her like, who the heck are you? Then he sat on the grass and she said," you need to go sit over there." Steve held out his arms and Cache walked over looking slightly confused about at what just happened. Props to him for listening though.

We saw Melman/ the Giraffes

Cache was going crazy shouting, "Mom! Mom" at every animal window. He was fascinated.

This is a classic Cache face which stands for, "this is pretty cool, huh."

Here is Cache deciding if this is "Mom!" worthy (he says Mom! when he is excited)
It is Mom! worthy so here he goes with he deep pitched repetive, "Mom! Mom!"

Look at this Gorilla, just chillin. I had to throw this in ;)

CUTE!!
Notice the monkey leash is no more in this picture. Cache was freed. He was running and galloping all over the place.

Cache was freaked out by this statue. He was cool with it until it made a loud noise and sprayed water at him. So taking a picture with this elephant, didn't turn out the way I'd hoped. But, the moment was captured.

Mandi and Grandma Jamie were there with us!! Even though it got a little bit hot ;)
Notice the hat Mandi is wearing....it is MAGICAL!!! This hat got Mandi to stop complaining and enjoy her zoo trip. Pretty amazing, no?

Gofer Cache

Mandi was really caught in a web. Don't worry, I saved her life.

Turtle

We are in an egg.

We are not sure what we are doing in the egg.

Playing on the playground

How better to end the zoo trip then to play in the cool fountain.

Cache fell asleep in the car pretty quickly. He had so much energy the whole time at the zoo he was zonked.
We all had so much fun! Definitely will be going again!!

Cache's First Movie Theatre Experience

August 11, 2010
We went to Toy Story 3

Cache loved the characters right away

He loved his popcorn and drink even more

He sat on Steve's lap until his popcorn was gone and then....

Well, he was kind of over it. Except for the occasional,

"MOM! Mom! Mom!" which he says when he sees something that really excites him and I have to look

and

"Woah"

He really like watching the movie on the stairs and he loved to wave at the characters and sometimes he would let us hold him.

He did good in that movie (which I did not realize was so long... although very cute).

Summer has come and gone...

and it's always a little bit sad.
We LOVE summer. We love being outdoors, swimming, parties, bbq's, family time, late nights and the celebrations. There is just something about summer that makes life not so stressful. Not just because I'm a teacher, I really think everyone relaxes just a little bit more than usual.

This summer we have had fun at the pool!! Pretty much everyday. I would show pictures but since it was usually just Cache and I,  I didn't take any. But summer isn't over yet, maybe I'll get some in. But I tell ya, taking cache is a handful. He thinks he is big and wants to go play in the deep end with the kids. But, his all time FAVORITE part of swimming is taking a hot shower by the pool. He'll jump out and run to the showers and point saying, "Mom. Mom. Please."

We clean and organized our home. And it has stayed CLEAN!! There is so much you can do when you don't have to work. I promised I wouldn't waste my "stay-home mommy time" and I didn't.

We had fun photo shoots.
We took naps.
I read lots of books for the upcoming school year.
We went to fun baseball games.
Stayed up late with family.
Visited friends.
Visited family.
Vegas.
St. George.

Cache and I read books and learned words, had dance parties. We watched "Chuggington" and "Yo-Gabba-Gabba". We decided we weren't watching Yo-Gabba, that guy freaked the both of us out.

Cache learned to gallop and he got to spend more time with his best friend Gwenie.

I'm always sad to see summer go...

For our last "Hoorah" we went to the zoo. Cache LOVED it.

More summer pictures to come.

Future member of Nitro Circus.

=(.

Cache is a daredevil.

He right now, is jumping off of the couch. He thinks he can jump off of anything.

At the pool he thinks he can jump right in without me. He tries to push me out of the way so he can swim in the deep end with the big kids. I think it hurts his pride a little when I plop him in his floatie.

Back to the couch launching.
We have put many pillows to try and help the landing.
I do not know how this game came to be.
Now, he isn't jumping. He is diving. If you count falling face forward diving.

I shall send all of you then video if you'd like.

oh my goodness...

Last night, 10:30 p.m, Cache is still awake. The play hard, laughing, no time to rest, type of awake.

I come out of the bathroom with one of those Biore' nose strippy things, and Cache is playing with that "wonderful" toy that makes all that noise.

You know the one, long blue handle that attaches to the ball that has balls inside and it goes,

"pop, pop, pop, pop, pop" when it is wheeled around.

Anyways, Cache looks up at me and looks so concerned. He points at my nose and, since he doesn't have the words for it, starts grunting at my nose.

I sit on the floor to be at his level, and he really doesn't want to come by me, but out of love he does. He takes both of my hands in his and tries to throw them up to my nose.

Steve and I were laughing so hard.

11:30 p.m, Steve is tired, I'm tired, Cache won't go to bed. So what do we do? Turn off all the lights. Sure enough we hear a

....pop......pop...pop. Cache slowly enters our room climbs up on the bed. He cuddles up right in between us and five minutes later I hear a

...pop.....................pop.

Lucky us. Cache decided to bring his toy to bed.

5 minutes later I think he is asleep, I attempt to get that toy out of our bed. Nope. Cache had a tight grip.

He was right next to me, half asleep still popping his toy.

Silence................silence.............silence.........pop, pop,pop.

I don't know what time it was that I was able to pry that toy out of Cache's hands.

Then,
Today I find out that Cache is lonely.

I was sitting on the balcony, feeding Cache some yogurt, when he gets up and leaves. I hear his footsteps quickly returning and he has....a baby doll. He places the baby doll on my left knee and then places himself on my right. He was talking to the baby, he made sure the baby had some yogurt and then he tried to play catch with the baby.

So I took him out.

We went to the library (SCARY), do not go there alone with baby.
After that enlightening experience we went to feed the ducks.

Not so easy. I took my camera but only took one picture of Cache running away.

He tried to swim with the ducks.
He chased the duck that was biting the other ducks... seriously this duck was on a duck choking it. I thought it was going to attack Cache next.

Then,
He got the hang of feeding the ducks and he loved it.
The ducks would come out of the water and he would get SO excited.

One duck ran into a big bush, so what does Cache do? Yeah, I had to climb into a bush in a dress to get him out.

Then we ended the day with a nice run.

Run meaning I was chasing my son in my wedges while he chased some guys dogs. All while saying, "Doggie, doggie!!"

Then we went to Auntie Terri's house and guess what!
Gwenie was there oh man Cache was thrilled!

 This just cracks me up!!
Thanks Gwenie for still being Cache's BFF

After our adventurous day, Cache was beat.

This was taken at the Center Street on ramp going south...

I say that because my short arms are not long enough to reach back there and fix his poor little head.
I wanted to reach back there and fix it so bad, but that might have resulted in a crash.
That always drives me crazy!!

Cute Cousins

Cache's Cousins

Our family from Idaho came down for a visit and to meet lil' Cache.
Cache just loves them

Charles

This is Charles.
Cache's first ever pet, and boy, did he love the little bug.

Charles came to us via toilet seat. That is right. I lifted up the toilet cover and there he was. I didn't realize it was a lady bug, I just saw a thing crawling on the toilet...so of course I had to scream.

Steve caught Charles from the toilet paper roll and I found him a home.

Cache LOVED watching Charles crawl around. Cache would trace the little bugs steps with his fingers.

Well...we had to let Charles go (hence the last picture)
Cache was pretty distraught. But I felt bad for the little bug when Cache got bored of just watching and decided to start shaking.

Thanks Charles for being our first family pet. We had a great 40 minutes together. This post is dedicated to Charles.

Wherever he may be.

Dee and Seamus asked me to take more pictures of them.
This time I was more daring, I went to two new locations that I have never shot at before and I played with the sunlight.

Shout out to my lil' sister, Kami, and Seth for being my assistants.

Here is one of several pictures, I would love for you to see the others. Just go to my photography bliggity-blog and you can see them :)

Next photo shoot I am focusing on my lil' man, Cacherz.
oh, and teenagers, as that is the next photo contest.

Fun stuff.

Mommy ♥'s Cache

Summer is already going by so fast.
I have loved every second being with Cache, I'm learning a lot.
I think working full time has helped me smile through the times when Cache breaks something, grabs his poop, pees on me...etc. because to put it simply, I'm just happy to be home with him.

Two weeks ago we went to Cache's 15 month check up.
They were pretty impressed that Cache could walk backwards, and had been for about a month.

He is 32" long and weighs 23 pounds
(Length 91%tile Weight 18%tile)

Cache is a very observant little guy
Here he is sitting in my chair.
He opened up my vanity,
turned it on,
grabbed my make-up brushes and started putting it on.
Many eyeshadows have been crumbled (yes, even a MAC one).

Cache sees me stick bobby pins in my hair all the time, and I usually have some above my ear...
Now I have to hide them from Cache because he tries to stick them in his ear.

He love to copy everything his dad does.
He even works out with him (cutest thing ever).
He loves moving and he is fast.
If it was possible for us to fly, Cache would be doing that already.
He loves dancing, running, spinning and anything that keeps him going.

In Vegas he would run down the hallway so stinkin' fast,
If Mandi or Kami jumped he would stop and raise his hands in the air, thinking he had jumped.

He tries to do cartwheels with me
AND
he is
ALWAYS
on the
GO...

He also is a very reverent prayer participant.
He will fold his arms and wait patiently until we are done.

Cache loves helping around the house,
he vacuums, "sweeps", dusts and "helps" me with laundry.

He even helps me wipe his poopy bum.
(SO funny)

Words:
Mama
Daddy (perfectly said...lucky Steve)
Doggy: Dah-ee
Bottle (ba-ba)...but the bottle is gone for good!
Woah! (I guess I'll count that as a word)
Thank You (Tay-oo)
Please(Pley...we are working on it, he doesn't say this one too much)
Mandi (Mah-ee)

He jibber-jabbers all the time, I love to hear it.

Possible Phrases We Are pretty sure we heard:
Bath time (Ba ime): We are pretty positive on this one
I want that: Steve and I both think we heard it and Cache was pointing at his sippy, but I hope we can get him to say it in a not so bratty way.

Cache has SIX teeth coming in right now!!
SIX!!
Including a molar
You wouldn't know it because nothing slows this kid down.
Not even Strep throat.

My little baby isn't a baby anymore.
Being with him through out the day has made me realize that even more.
If I ask him to take something to Steve he'll do it.
If I ask him if he wants to read a book, he'll lead me to the bookshelf.
If I say bath time or if he says it, he'll run to the bathroom while trying to undress himself.
If I say, No Cache, he will look at me and smile and stop (usually)
If I say, clean up time, he will start putting things away.
He tries to feed himself with spoon.
He loves to play catch.
If I say, time to go, he will run to the gate and tippy-toe to try and unlatch it.
He does the actions to twinkle-twinkle and 5 little monkeys...

I don't know when all of this happened.
But, I do know/have realized that no matter what things will come up and I need to make sure I take time to write down everything that is going on.
Because someday, this is all I will have to remember these little toddler moments.

Even if I have to stay up til' 2:00 am to do it.

Ellie

Mandi's BFF

Mandi

If you have ever met my little sister Mandi, then right away you know that she is a strong, independent, sassy, street smarts little girl who is most definitely a Republican.
Mandi also is a wonderful Auntie. She is always playing and spending time with all of her nieces and nephews. I don't think any of us thank her enough for all that she does.
Thank you Mandi!

On Saturday I got to take some fun pictures of her and her BFF Ellie ;) Here are some Mandi pictures that I love!

This one is my favorite (as you can tell by the double showing)...
Boo, we (Steve, Cache and I) sure love you and want you to know how amazing we think you are.

Little Children

The story of Ethan Stacy makes my heart ache. I wish I could've or someone else could've saved his poor innocent body from all the hurt. I was reading more about the story tonight and the tears were flowing from my eyes. My heart felt so low and then I found this:
If Ethan's experience or any like his are troubling you, maybe this will help

Thomas S. Monson, “A Little Child Shall Lead Them,” Ensign, Jun 2002, 2–7
Image

During the Galilean ministry of our Lord and Savior, the disciples came unto Him, saying: “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

“And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,

“And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

“Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

“And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.

“But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea” (Matt. 18:1–6).

The Many Faces of Child Abuse

Some time ago, as I read the daily newspaper, my thoughts turned to this passage and the firm candor of the Savior’s declaration. In one column of the newspaper I read of a custody battle between the mother and father of a child. Accusations were made, threats hurled, and anger displayed as parents moved here and there on the international scene with the child spirited away from one continent to another.

A second story told of a 12-year-old lad who was beaten and set on fire because he refused a neighborhood bully’s order to take drugs.

Still a third report told of a father’s sexual molestation of his small child.

A physician once revealed to me the large number of abused children who are being brought to the emergency rooms of local hospitals in your city and mine. In many cases guilty parents provide fanciful accounts of the child falling from his high chair or stumbling over a toy and striking his head. Altogether too frequently it is discovered that the parent was the abuser and the innocent child the victim. Shame on the perpetrators of such vile deeds. God will hold such strictly accountable for their actions.

Children Are Precious to the Lord

When we realize just how precious children are, we will not find it difficult to follow the pattern of the Master in our association with them. Not long ago, a sweet scene took place at the Salt Lake Temple. Children, who had been ever so tenderly cared for by faithful workers in the temple nursery, were now leaving in the arms of their mothers and fathers. One child turned to the lovely women who had been so kind to the children and, with a wave of her arm, spoke the feelings of her heart as she exclaimed, “Good night, angels.”

The poet described a child so recently with its Heavenly Father as “a sweet new blossom of Humanity, fresh fallen from God’s own home to flower on earth.” 1

Who among us has not praised God and marveled at His powers when an infant is held in one’s arms? That tiny hand, so small yet so perfect, instantly becomes the topic of conversation. No one can resist placing his little finger in the clutching hand of an infant. A smile comes to the lips, a certain glow to the eyes, and one appreciates the tender feelings which prompted the poet to pen the lines:
Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting: The Soul that rises with us, our life’s Star, Hath had elsewhere its setting, And cometh from afar; Not in entire forgetfulness, And not in utter nakedness, But trailing clouds of glory do we come From God, who is our home. 2

When the disciples of Jesus attempted to restrain the children from approaching Him, He declared:

“Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

“Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

“And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them” (Mark 10:14–16).

What a magnificent pattern for us to follow.

We Can Bless the Lives of Children

Several years ago my heart burned warmly within me when the First Presidency approved the allocation of a substantial sum from some special fast-offering contributions to join with those funds from Rotary International that polio vaccine might be provided and the children living in Kenya immunized against this vicious crippler and killer of children.

I thank God for the work of our doctors who leave for a time their own private practices and journey to distant lands to minister to children. Cleft palates and other deformities which would leave a child impaired physically and damaged psychologically are skillfully repaired. Despair yields to hope. Gratitude replaces grief. These children can now look in the mirror and marvel at a miracle in their own lives.

In a meeting, I once told of a dentist in my ward who each year visited the Philippine Islands to work his skills without compensation to provide corrective dentistry for children. Smiles were restored, spirits lifted, and futures enhanced. I did not know that the daughter of this dentist was in the congregation to which I was speaking. At the conclusion of my remarks, she came forward and, with a broad smile of proper pride, said, “You have been speaking of my father. How I love him and what he is doing for children!”

In the faraway islands of the Pacific, hundreds who were near-blind now see because a missionary said to his physician brother-in-law, “Leave your wealthy clientele and the comforts of your palatial home and come to these special children of God who need your skills and need them now.” The ophthalmologist responded without a backward glance. He has commented quietly that this visit was the best service he ever rendered and the peace which came to his heart the greatest blessing of his life.

Tears came easily to me when I read of a father who donated one of his own kidneys in the hope that his son might have a more abundant life. I have dropped to my knees at night and have added my prayer of faith in behalf of a mother in my community who journeyed to Chicago that she might provide part of her liver to her daughter in a delicate and potentially life-threatening surgery. She, who already had gone down into the valley of the shadow of death to bring forth this child into mortality, again put her hand in the hand of God and placed her own life in jeopardy for her child. Never a complaint, but ever a willing heart and a prayer of faith.

Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles once shared the pitiable plight of many orphan children in Romania—perhaps 30,000 in the city of Bucharest alone. He visited one such orphanage and arranged that the Church might provide vaccine, medical dressings, and other urgently needed supplies. Certain couples were identified and called to fill special missions to these children. I can think of no more Christlike service than to hold a motherless child in one’s arms or to take a fatherless boy by the hand.

We need not be called to missionary service, however, in order to bless the lives of children. Our opportunities are limitless. They are everywhere to be found—sometimes very close to home.

How Children Bless Our Lives

Several years ago I received a letter from a woman who had emerged from a long period of Church inactivity. She was ever so anxious for her husband, who as yet was not a member of the Church, to share the joy she felt.

She wrote of a trip which she, her husband, and their three sons made from the family home to Grandmother’s home in Idaho. While driving through Salt Lake City, they were attracted by the message which appeared on a billboard. The message invited them to visit Temple Square. Bob, the nonmember husband, made the suggestion that a visit would be pleasant. The family entered the visitors’ center, and Father took two sons up a ramp that one called “the ramp to heaven.” Mother and three-year-old Tyler were a bit behind the others, they having paused to appreciate the beautiful paintings which adorned the walls. As they walked toward the magnificent sculpture of Thorvaldsen’s Christus, tiny Tyler bolted from his mother and ran to the base of the Christus, while exclaiming, “It’s Jesus! It’s Jesus!” As Mother attempted to restrain her son, Tyler looked back toward her and his father and said, “Don’t worry. He likes children.”

After departing the center and again making their way along the freeway toward Grandmother’s, Dad asked Tyler what he liked best about their adventure on Temple Square. Tyler smiled up at him and said, “Jesus.”

“How do you know that Jesus likes you, Tyler?”

Tyler, with a most serious expression on his face, looked up at his father’s eyes and answered, “Dad, didn’t you see His face?” Nothing else needed to be said.

As I read this account, I thought of the statement from the book of Isaiah, “And a little child shall lead them” (Isa. 11:6).

The words of a Primary hymn express the feelings of a child’s heart:
Tell me the stories of Jesus I love to hear, Things I would ask him to tell me if he were here. Scenes by the wayside, tales of the sea, Stories of Jesus, tell them to me.
Oh, let me hear how the children stood round his knee. I shall imagine his blessings resting on me; Words full of kindness, deeds full of grace, All in the lovelight of Jesus’ face. 3

Steve

Hun, you are going to be 24! I am so proud of the man that you are. I love everything about the person you are.  I love the father you are and the husband you are. You're my best friend and the love of my life.
Thank you for being a good example for Cache and for me. Thank you for your unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I love when I walk in on you reading your scriptures, my heart fills with joy (cheesy babe, i know, but hey I don't know how else to explain it). You make me a better person! Especially after family prayer when we say our own prayers and I come into the room (because you know how I like to say my personal prayer in isolation ;) ) and you are still going and going. I think to myself, I need to pray longer... ;) or I need to whip out the scriptures myself.
I know we say I love you everyday  but I feel like I don't tell you these other things often enough. Thank you oh so much.

Might I also add that I think you are stinkin' handsome! And you make me smile and often giggle. Especially when I go on the computer and find pictures like this...

I'm keeping these forever.
I love them and I am positive our children and their children's children will love them too.
The bottom one is my favorite ;)

I love you
today, tomorrow and for always.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!

Splish Splash

Mommy's cleanin' up the bath...
at home after I started a splash.

Step one...splash
step two...look at mommy like, "really, pictures...now? fine"
Step three: 2 seconds after step two get back to splashing.
